Normal vs. Abnormal Blood & Discharge
Normal Period Blood
- Red to dark red; brown or black near the end is okay
- Flow varies from heavy to light over 3–7 days
- Small clots (smaller than a quarter) can be normal
Abnormal Period Blood
- Very heavy bleeding (soaking pads/tampons quickly)
- Large clots or prolonged bleeding
- Strong, unpleasant odor or unusual color (gray/black)
Normal Discharge
- Clear, white, or light yellow
- Changes in texture during cycle (slippery around ovulation)
- Mild or no scent
Abnormal Discharge
- Green, gray, or yellow with a bad smell
- Thick, cottage-cheese texture (possible yeast infection)
- Itching, burning, or discomfort
